Facade Design Optimization

The project focused on the geometric optimization and rationalization of the façade of the main building at the ELPEN LifeTech Park in Spata, Athens. The work involved re-modelling the architectural geometry and developing a rationalized façade system that could accommodate the complexity of the overall building form while remaining feasible for fabrication and installation.

A parametric workflow was developed to generate and evaluate alternative façade panelling strategies. Different panel configurations and subdivision patterns were explored, with each iteration assessed against a combination of geometric and construction constraints, including surface continuity, maximum panel dimensions, panel geometry, installation requirements and cost. This allowed the design space to be systematically explored and alternative solutions to be compared based on both geometric performance and practical feasibility.

The process established a link between architectural geometry, façade rationalization, and fabrication constraints, helping identify the optimal panelization strategy that maintained the intended architectural expression while reducing geometric complexity and improving constructability.
